Campaign for Centre

On March 26, 1987, Centre College publicly announced a campaign to raise $33 million over a three year period. Named the Campaign for Centre, the focus was on improving faculty salaries and increasing endowment for financial aid and scholarships. Within the first year, the original goal had been reached, and the Board of Trustees expanded the campaign to a goal of $39 million. A major gift was $3 million from the Olin Foundation of New York to pay for the cost of building and equipping the Franklin W. Olin Hall of Physical Science. Other major gifts included $1 million from the James Graham Brown Foundation of Louisville for student financial aid and scholarships and an unrestricted gift of $1 million from Humana, Inc. of Louisville. The campaign ended in December 1989, having achieved its goal of raising $39 million.
