The Fund for The Future
On January 21, 1980, Centre College publically announced that it had begun a campaign to raise $30 million in gifts and pledges by July 31, 1982. The campaign, called The Fund for The Future, sought to raise $2,500,000 to support current operations and $27,000,000 to enlarge the endowment and provide for other capital investments. The goal was to increase the college’s endowment from $11.5 million to over $30 million. By October 1980 the campaign reached the $20 million mark. Seven months prior to its deadline, The Fund for The Future reached its original $30 million goal. The campaign concluded in July 1982 having surpassed its goal by over $4 million. The final totals were $12,163,479 in current gifts and pledges and $21,983,322 in deferred gifts.
