Briscoe Inman
Briscoe Inman was born March 2, 1922, in Boyle County, Kentucky. He graduated from Danville High School in 1940, earning football All-State honors in 1939. Inman began at Centre College, but his education was interrupted by World War II. During the war he flew for the Marine Air Corps. He returned to Centre following the war, excelling in sports, and serving as the captain of the 1947 football and 1948 baseball teams. Inman graduated from Centre in 1949 before going on to the University of Kentucky for a master’s degree. From 1949 to 1952 Inman was head coach of both football and basketball at Danville High School. In 1952 Inman moved to Centre as the head football, basketball, baseball, and golf coach, along with being the athletic director and chair of the Department of Physical Education. He would also serve as head coach for Centre's short-lived wrestling team. Inman’s Centre football team of 1955 went undefeated, and was ranked as the top small college team in the country. Inman was named coach of the year by the Washington Touchdown Club.
Inman was involved a numerous professional and civic activities, serving on the Danville School Board, the city commission, and was a president of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the College Athletic Conference. He was a member of the ODK honorary fraternity and Phi Delta Kappa, an honorary fraternity in education.
Inman retired in 1977 due to health, and died June 29, 1978
