Enos Swain, Class of 1931

Enos Swain was the editor and general manager of the Danville Advocate-Messenger for 34 years. Under his leadership, the paper increased its circulation from 1,500 to 11,000, and began publishing a Sunday edition. At Centre, Swain was editor-in-chief of The Cento, an English and economics major, and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After working for various papers around Kentucky, he returned to Centre as alumni secretary and director of publications from 1940 to 1944, before leaving to join the Advocate. He was president of the Alumni Association, served on various reunion committees, was a trustee, and in 1986 named trustee emeritus. Swain was president of the Kentucky Historical Society, a trustee of Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, a Rotarian, and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Danville. He was also active in Republican politics. Swain died November 8, 1987.
