Citizens of Danville Novr. [November] 30 1830

Gentlemen

With sensible emotions I received the saddle and bridle so very affectionately presented to me by the citizens of Danville. The present is in itself valuable, but as it is an expression of the friendship & respect of the citizens towards me, it is rendered doubly valuable - especially at a time when a small but [unclear: ruthless?] party have, like the fable Bohoncepus, been spreading a deleterious effluvia throughout the neighborhood.

This token of your affection will be a solace to my heart as I ride from place to place to preach the gospel of the [unclear: ever?] blessed God, & will keep in my remembrance the value of unshaken friendship in the hour of trial.

With sentiments of high respect I am [unclear: Gentlemen?] yours affectionately

Gid. [Gideon] Blackburn
