Chamberlain Literary Society. Public Exhibitions
Article 1
Section 1
This Society shall hold but one annual celebration, which shall be held on 22nd February.
Section 2
A committee of thirteen, consisting of three regular members from each of the college classes, and one from the irregulars, shall be elected by ballot at the second meeting after 22nd February, whose duty it shall be to nominate four members as candidates for speakers, who shall publically represent this Society.
Section 3
The committee shall report at the next regular meeting after they have been elected.
Section 4
Immediately after the report of this committee, the Society shall go into the election of speakers.
Section 5
All votes shall be confined to the four persons nominated by the committee.
Section 6
The committee shall report the name of no person as candidate for speaker who shall have used any means, either directly or indirectly, to secure his nomination or election.
Article 2
A committee of two shall be appointed by the speakers whose duty it shall be to make all necessary arrangements for conducting the public celebration.
Article 3
Section 1
The speakers shall wear a white satin badge which shall be fastened with a white rosette on the left shoulder, and hanging loose, all of which shall be paid for by the Society.
Section 2
Each member of this Society shall wear a white rosette on his left breast, and any member failing to wear said badge at any public celebration shall be fined one dollar.
Section 3
The committee shall wear a badge on the left breast consisting of a white rosette with two streamers. The Society shall pay for the committee badges, but all such ornaments as stars, tassels, etc., shall be paid by the committee.
Section 4
The marshal shall wear a white satin scarf, passing over the left shoulder and fastened on the right side, which badge shall be purchased by the Society.
Section 5
In order to defray the expenses of our celebration, each member shall be taxed ten cents per month, which amount shall be placed in the hands of the Treasurer, the collection of which shall be subject to all the regulations of fines and fees specified in the Constitution.
Article 4
Section 1
The proceedings of each convention shall be kept profoundly secret, until the time its report is made to the Society.
Section 2
A marshal shall be chosen by the speakers and committee, whose duty it shall be to arrange the Society in procession, and keep order. The said marshal shall be chosen from the members of the Society.
Section 3
All motions for altering, amending, or suspending these regulations shall be made in writing, recorded in the minutes, and read out at the next regular meeting before any vote shall be taken thereon, and it shall require a majority of four-fifths of the regular members voting to alter, amend, or suspend and Article or Section.
