Article 1 Duties of the Librarian
It shall be the duty of the Librarian to open the Library at the close of the third hour every Monday during the college session, to keep a correct record of all books taken out, to keep all books labeled and arranged in their proper places, to keep a correct account of all monies belonging to the Library, and to report to the Society all fines assessed by him.
Article 2 Duties of Assistant Librarian
Four assistant Librarians shall be chosen by the Librarian, who’s duties shall be to assist in opening the Library, to hand all books to the members, to report all persons taking down books from the shelves and those going behind the railing without permission, to keep the books in their proper places, and to report all cases in which books have been injured or defaced.
Article 3 Library Fees
Section 1
Every member, without exception, shall in three weeks after his first entrance into the Society, in every session, pay to the Librarian one dollar ($1.00) as his library fee.
Section 2
If the library fee be not paid within the specified time, twenty-five cents (25¢) shall be added for each week payment is deferred.
Article 4
No member of this Society shall be allowed to have more than two books out at the same time, except the Librarian who shall have the privilege of taking six, and the assistant Librarians, who may each take three, and any one violating this Article shall be fined as specified in Article 11.
Article 5
Section 1
No member of this Society shall be permitted to keep books out longer than two weeks without renewing them, and any one violating this Article shall be fined as specified in Article 11.
Section 2
No member shall renew a book more than once, and any one keeping a book out one month after the specified time for returning it shall pay the value of it as assessed by the Librarian and his assistants.
Article 6
Each member on taking out a book shall see that it is recorded by the Librarian, and on the return of the same shall see that it is taken off, and anyone violating this Article shall be fined as specified in Article 11.
Article 7
No one who is not a member of this Society shall take out books on his own name, and all members on whose names books are taken out, whether by members of this Society or not, shall be responsible for the same, and shall pay all fines incurred for not renewing, or not returning, them at the proper time, and for injuring them in any way.
Article 8
Any one writing in, injuring, or defacing in any manner books belonging to this Society shall be fined by the Librarian as specified in Article 11.
Article 9
No books shall be taken out later than two weeks previous to the close of the session, and all books shall be returned on the day of the last regular meeting of this Society, and any one violating this Article shall be fined as specified in article 11.
Article 10
Any one going behind the railing of the Library without permission of the Librarian, or taking books from the shelves without permission of the assistant Librarians shall be fined as specified in Article 11.
Article 11 Fines
The stated fines of this Society with regard to the Library shall be as follows.
- For taking out more than two books at the same time twenty-five cents (25¢) for each volume
- For not returning the books at the proper time twenty-five cents (25¢)
- For not renewing a book at the proper time twenty-five cents (25¢)
- For not seeing that a book is recorded twenty-five cents (25¢)
- For not having it marked off when returned twenty-five cents (25¢)
- For writing in, injuring, or defacing a book in any way twenty-five cents (25¢) at least, and more (not exceeding the value of the book) according to the discretion of the Librarian
- For going behind the railing without permission twenty-five cents (25¢)
- For taking books from the shelves without permission twenty-five cents (25¢)
- For not returning books at the last regular meeting of the Society at the close of each session fifty cents (50¢) for each volume
Article 12
The Librarian and his assistants shall have power to make out lists, and buy all books for the Library, to the extent of all the money actually in the possession of and due the Library, and to have all books rebound thy find needing it.
Article 13
The Librarian shall be on all committees, and chairman of the same appointed for transcribing business concerning the Library.
Article 14
At the close of each session the Library may be left in charge of some regular member of this Society remaining here during the vacation, and who shall act as Librarian and be personally responsible for all books taken out during vacation, the same to be appointed by the President of the Society at the last regular meeting of the Society in each session.
Article 15
All monies due the Library shall be collected as monies of the Society are, and shall in all cases be paid into the hands of the Librarian to be used for the benefit of the Library.
