Indenture between John Cochran and Trustees of Centre College (April 1819)

This indenture made this [blank] day of April 1819 between John Cochran and [blank: Jane] Cochran his wife of the one part and the Trustees of the Centre College of Kentucky of the other part witnesseth That for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that said John Cochran and [blank: Jane] Cochran have granted bargained & sold & by these presents do grant, bargain, sell alien convey and confirm unto the Trustees of the Centre College of Kentucky & their successors in office in fee simple forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying in Mercer County near the town of Danville containing seven acres & bounded as follows Beginning at a point which will be in the south side of the street of said town when extended westward called Main Street [inserted: sixty feet west of the Presbyterian Church lot] thence with the south side of said street when so extended south 88 3/4 degrees west fifty five poles to a stake thence south 1 1/4 east twenty poles six feet three inches to a stake in the line of the street of said town called back street

when extended westward thence with the north line of said street so extended north 88 3/4 east fifty five poles to a stake thence north 1 1/4 west twenty poles six feet three inches to the beginning. To have & to hold to the said Trustees & their successors in office forever.

And the said John Cochran and [blank: Jane] Cochran covenant & bind themselves their heirs [executors] and [administrators] to warrant and defend the said seven acres of land above described to the said Trustees & their successors in office against the claim or claims of all & every person or persons whatsoever.

In testimony whereof the said John Cochran & [blank: Jane] Cochran have hereto subscribed their names & affixed their seal the day & date above written, at Danville.
