August 6, 1866, Preparatory Department in Centre College

At their meeting in June 1866, the Board of Trustees authorized and directed their Financial Committee to employ a teacher for this department for the ensuring year.

For the purpose of employing such teacher, the Financial Committee of the Board of Trustees of Centre College meet in the office of the Financial Agent at 4 o'clock p.m., August 6, 1866. Members present, Edward Humphrey, John A. Jacobs, Ormond Beatty, George W. Welsh, and Financial Agent. In the absence of the chairman, Edward P. Humphrey was chosen chairman pro tem. John A. Jacobs and Ormond Beatty were appointed a committee to confer with certain gentlemen whose names had been presented to this Committee as suitable persons to fill the office of teachers in this department, and report at their earliest convenience. Adjourned to meet at the call of said committee.
