Gentlemen of the Board of Trustees of Centre College

I wish to take the present opportunity of the meeting of your Board to express my thanks for your kindness, and for the confidence you have reposed in me during the time I have been in your service, and also to signify my intention of resigning into your hands the Professorship of Ancient Languages in Centre College.

I wish this resignation to take effect when I shall have served you another session.
