In Memoriam
Alpha Kappa Phi
[line]
Died at the Univ. of Miss. [University of Mississippi]
Dec. 27th 1869 [December 27, 1869], Beverly Stowers Hicks,
a member of the Ε [Epsilon] chapter of
the Α.Κ.Φ. [Alpha Kappa Phi] Fraternity.
[line]
Death has invaded our Fraternity, and with cruel hand, has removed from our number, one who by his noble and generous actions has deeply entwined himself in our affections.
Recognizing the far-seeing wisdom of an All-wise Providence in this act, though so sore an affliction to us, and feeling that "Death's but a path that must be trod If man would win pass to God" - our hearts are bowed down with

grief that we must part with one so young yet so gifted with those virtues which most adorn the human heart, and we would express our affection for him as a Brother, and our esteem for his excellent qualities of mind and heart.
As a member of our Fraternity, he was ever foremost and most active in promoting its interests, and as a friend he was faithful and kind, and "___ since he has gone we doubly feel alone". We offer our heartfelt sympathy to his stricken relatives and friends in this our common loss.
As a token of respect

for his memory, we drape our badges in mourning for thirty days, and transmit a copy of these proceedings to the relatives [illegible word] friends of our deceased brother.
