Mr. J.J. Hogsett [John James Hogsett]
Dear Bro. [Brother]
Your favor came to hand yesterday evening, contents duly noted. I hardly have the heart to say anything about the chapter of our beloved order at this place as it is not in a flourishing condition. All attempts of mine and some other members have proved unavailing in arousing the brethren to action. During the first session we were in high hopes, having nearly [illegible word] number of substantial men, but the greater portion of them have left the institution. And I find

impossible or useless to have any further meetings. I think seriously of sending back the constitution. None of our chapter are acquainted with the young man at Frankfort [Frankfort, Ky.], and like you we have our doubts about entrusting the constitution with anyone who writes such a letter as the young man at Frankfort, if that should be a proper way to judge of his merits. I do not think any of our members will be going to F____ [Frankfort, Ky.] soon if so will let you know. Next year we hope to report more favorably. I return the two letters.
I am yours Fraternaly [sic]
