"John Green and Joseph McDowell, Esqs., are appointed as collectors of the funds due the institution in the room of David G. Cowan, who is about absent, and they are authorized to use their discretion as to any coercion to be used in the collection of any monies due the college, and also to receive notes as they may deem expedient." Board of Trustee Minutes, August 5, 1819.
The list are the names assigned to Green of those who had subscribed to the Danville Academy. The money subscribed for the academy, which was never established, was given to the Trustees of Centre College. It formed the initial funds of the new college.
The following subscriptions put into the hands of John Green Esq. for Collection by order of the Trustees of the Centre College of Kentucky; one fourth being due on the 1st July 1819.
