[From the 1911 Caldwell College yearbook. Written by Amanda Welch. Mr. Acheson is John Acheson, President of Caldwell College]
TO THEE, Mr. Acheson, I OFFER MY PRAYER:
Feed me well with dessert each day, water me and care for me, and when my day's work is done, provide me with a midnight feast and a good bed where I may sleep all the next day. Take it for granted that I am ill. Talk to me. Your kindness means more to me than lost privileges, and then I may learn to work more readily and to love you. Never punish me when I say I am sorry. What more can I do, so give me a chance. It was done thru carelessness. If I fail to do thy bidding something is wrong with the Faculty. Don't ever lose your temper, for you often cut us up when that occurs, and you know that is very painful.
And, finally, O, Mr. Acheson, when I merit discipline, do not reduce me to a minimum, but do thou, Mr. Acheson, let me go free just this one time and I'll promise never to do anything wrong again. Can't you understand how it was?
