Caldwell College Board of Trustees Minutes (1911)

Danville, Ky. April 21, 1911

Board of Trustees of Caldwell College met in the Citizens National Bank. Present John A. Quisenberry, S.M. Harbison, Alfred B. Nelson, Samuel R. Cheek, John J. Craig, N.K. Tunis, J.E Wiseman, John C. Acheson, J.M. Wallace, J.H. Letcher, and John A. Cheek.

On motion the contract with Mr. John C. Acheson for the year from July 1st 1911 to July 1, 1912 was renewed and President of the Board authorized to sign same.

An application to the College Board 156 5th Ave. New York, for $2,500.00 for the year 1911-12 was approved and President and Secretary directed to sign same, and President Acheson was authorized to present same to Synod for its approval.

The Presbytery of Transylvania at its meeting at Mt. Vernon, Ky. on April 11th 1911 took the following action, viz

Resolved that Transylvania Presbytery authorizes and directs the Trustees of the Presbytery to donate to Caldwell College of Danville, Ky. a portion amounting to $5,299.90 of the fund received from the sale of the Alexander College property at Burksville, Ky. on the following conditions.

  1. That said fund so donated shall be forfeited and shall revert to the Trustees of Transylvania Presbytery whenever the charter of said college ceases to contain a provision requiring two thirds of the members of its Board of Trustees to be members of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America.
  2. That said Caldwell College shall enter into a contract with the Trustees of Transylvania Presbytery agreeing to receive as students four girls residing within the bounds of the Presbytery under rules and regulations prescribed by the Presbytery, it being agreed however that such rules and regulations shall not prescribe that said girls shall be received at a rate less than half of the rates for board and tuition published from year to year in the catalogue of said college.

On motion of Samuel R. Cheek, second by J.E. Wiseman, the Board accepted this fund on the terms and conditions named and the President and Secretary of this Board were authorized to sign the contract referred to.

Danville, Ky. May 31, 1911

The Board of Trustees of Caldwell College met at Second Presbyterian Church of Danville, Ky. Present John A. Quisenberry, Charles H. Rodes, J.M. Wallace, J.H. Letcher, J.E. Wiseman, John C. Acheson, M.J. Farris, N.K. Tunis, John J. Craig, Alfred B. Nelson, and John A. Cheek.

Minutes of meetings of May 30th 1910 and April 21, 1911 were read and approved as recorded.

On motion the following resolutions were unanimously adopted.

Resolved that the President of the corporation be and he hereby is authorized, informed, and directed to execute and deliver for and in behalf of the corporation, a deed of gift from the said The College Board of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, to same the repayment of the said the sum of fifteen hundred dollars on conditions named in the deed and to affix the corporate seal of the corporation thereto.
