Faculty held its regular weekly meeting, with all members present. Prayer by Dr. McKee. Dr. Nelson asked the Faculty to accept his resignation as Secretary after holding the office ten or twelve years, stating that for some time his eyes had given him a great deal of uneasiness and anxiety. His resignation was accepted, and J. W. Redd was chosen Secretary in his stead. The schedule of the final examinations of the Senior Class arranged.
Order was sent to the matron of the College House to dismiss a domestic of questionable character.
Addison McElroy, former student of Centre College, now student of Theology in Princeton Seminary, was recommended to the Board of Trustees for the honorary degree of A. B.

Faculty met in Dr. Beatty's classroom, and all members present except Dr. McKee.
It was decided to begin College one half an hour earlier. Upon motion of the Faculty J. M. Walton was given the valedictory, having attained the highest grade in all classes. Profs. Cheek and Redd were appointed to report upon funds on hand for Alumni dinner June next, and to ascertain the average grade of the graduating members of class 1888.
C. Julian was summoned before the Faculty for irregular attendance in Prof. Cheek's room.
No other business before the Faculty. Adjourned.

Faculty met in Dr. Beatty's classroom, all members present except Dr. McKee.
S. J. Pulliam, of Stanford, requested two scholarships for his Academy the present year, as two students were so nearly equal in rank. Request was granted.
Richard Apperson was summoned before the Faculty for numerous absences from recitation rooms and chapel. His excuses were not at all satisfactory, and Apperson was granted further trial, provided he attended every recitation. Another absence, without valid excuse, would dismiss him from College.
It was decided not to confer diploma upon J. B. Dailey, unless he asked for it, but to announce all honour that belongs to him Commencement day.
Obadiah B. Caldwell asked the Faculty to lessen his work in German, claiming that he had done extra work in Chemistry, which might be taken as substitute. The matter was referred to the Professor of German.
Owing to lack of funds it was deemed best not to have the annual Alumni dinner at the close of the present scholastic year.
Schedule of final examinations to be prepared by Professor Fales.

Faculty met in Dr. Beatty's classroom, with all members present. Prayer by Dr. McKee. Denny of Senior class was excused from speaking commencement day. Programs to the number of 600 of commencement exercises were ordered. After consultation it was deemed advisable to have the class day speeches read in the hearing of the Faculty at the next meeting, June 18, 8:30 a.m.

Faculty met in Prof. Fales study. Reports of students made out. Motion to repair the Laird's picture in College Library - expenses not to exceed $35. Advertising reported, and placed in the hands of the Secretary with Dr. Beatty for consultation.
Moved by the Faculty to request Mr. Walton to select a suitable assistant in addition to Mr. Pulliam for Preparatory Department. General feeling of the Faculty that Mr. F. Walton must produce letters showing a good record of his character from patrons of his school, that he has been teaching the past three years.
During the week of examinations, it was decided to award two watches for the Boyle Sophomore Prize, as two members were so close in rank. Thus a gold watch was given to each of the following gentlemen of the Sophomore class, viz. H. Y. Grubbs and R. L. Oelze.
Following Judges were appointed in the Oratorical Contest: Rev. J.W. Walden, Rev. J. McClusky Blagney, and Judge Jno. S. VanWinkle.

VanArsdall deficient in Mathematics, Craig behind in Analytic. Price also deficient in Analytics; advised to make up deficiency and take German 2nd term. General feeling that Flaig was not prepared to enter College. Prof. Fales and Dr. McKee, committee, to look into cost of repairing beds for College Home. Edwin VanWinkle to be allowed to enter Sophomore B.S. course, with the understanding that he is to double the Sophomore course next year.

Wright and Powell granted the privilege of making up deficiency in Mathematics immediately, and reporting to Dr. Nelson from time to time. At the request of J. B. Dailey, moved and carried that certificates of work done in the College be sent him. Mills to be interviewed for non-attendance. Stanley required to produce letter as to his standing in Mathematics. Roll called and work of each student inquired into.

Faculty called to order in Dr. McKee's room. Huss allowed either to omit Greek of the Sophomore class or to take up regular Freshman A.B. course. Roll was called, and Godsey was found too often absent from his classes. Sebastian too much addicted to the use of tobacco. Goodloe, Smith and Kinnaird of Freshman class falling behind in their studies. Prof. Fales to look after books in Library and make whatever arrangement he deems advisable.

Grubbs, Jr. desires a recommendation from the Faculty for West Point, and Secretary requested to prepare it.
Price desires to provide for a course of lectures in connection with the College, and Profs. Cheek and Redd were appointed to confer with a committee from the two societies, and make best arrangement possible.

Robert Caldwell, at his request, was allowed to study French at Caldwell College, but to be examined by Prof. of Modern Languages in Centre College, if offered or substitute for any of the studies in College. Bruce reported as often sick, and therefore unable to attend College. Roll called, and work of each student reported.

Faculty met with prayer by Dr. McKee. A letter from Grant of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, was read, asking the requirements of our College for entrance into the regular Senior class. Requirements as follows: that Grant produce certificate that he has studied all the branches in the regular course at Miami University up to 2nd term of Senior year and has passed satisfactory examinations; otherwise deficiencies must be made up in the lower classes either in the College or privately. Under these conditions Grant allowed to enter Senior class, provided further that he will fully occupy his time, till end of the senior year. For further correspondence, referred to Dr. Nelson.
John VanWinkle summoned before the Faculty for disorder in Dr. Beatty's room. His case stated by Dr. Beatty, and defense by VanWinkle, admitting that he regretted his action, and promising that he would not in future intentionally create disorder. Faculty advised the Vice President to state positively to Mr. VanWinkle, that his conduct could not be allowed, and the he must be respectful in every [illegible word] in Dr. Beatty's room. Further that he must make that promise to Dr. Beatty.

Faculty held a call meeting, in case of Cowan who was summoned by Dr. Beatty for disorder. His case stated by Dr. Beatty; Cowan showed some animus in his defense. Unanimously agreed on part of the Faculty that Cowan must apologize to Dr. Beatty, promising at the same time that in future he would not intentionally create a disorder or disturbance of any kind. The Vice President to state the decision of the Faculty both frankly and positively to Cowan, and to insist that such conduct on the part of any student would not be tolerated. Luther Stodghill to be answered and advised to return at once to Prof. Cheek's room, as he would be forthwith summoned to appear before the Faculty.

The Senior Class asked to be allowed four weeks longer to prepare their essays, which was granted.
Patterson asked for some indulgence in making up his Greek studies, as he was necessarily kept from College at the beginning of the session. Granted.
Request of Rev. D. Landon for a recommendation from the Faculty to President elect Harrison in his behalf as minister resident and consul general to Siam declined, on the grounds that he was not known by all the members of the Faculty, and that it was not wise for us as a Faculty to give recommendations for political offices. The recommendation could be given by any member of the Faculty individually, if he felt so disposed. Dr. Young then asked the number of students on the roll, and desired to know the number likely to be turned back. Further a talk about fees of tuition, and matters in general.
