The meeting was opened with prayer by Dr. Hinitt. Present - Dr. Hinitt & Profs. Fales, Logan, Nelson, Redd, Cheek, Crooks, Gordon, Blayney, Fulton, & Clark. The regulation requiring a thesis of candidates for the Bachelor's Degree was repealed. Absences due to protracted sickness were excused in the case of the following: W.B. Ardery, E.F. McConnell, J.C. Frierson, & Wm. Woodford. Adjourned.

The meeting was opened with prayer by Prof. Crooks. Present - President Hinitt & Professors Fales, Logan, Nelson, Redd, Cheek, Crooks, Gordon, Throckmorton, Blayney, Fulton, & Clark. The following members of the graduating class were awarded fellowships for the session of 1907-8: James Llewellyn Crenshaw, Nicholas Hermann Dosker, & Edmund Shackelford Lee. President Hinitt was authorized to fill the two remaining fellowships, which he subsequently did by the appointment of Logan Berry English, & William Lyne Starling. Adjourned.

The registration record of each student was read in order to determine whether any students had failed to report for assignment work. Adjourned.

October 4, 1907

The meeting was opened with prayer by Prof. Throckmorton. Present - President Hinitt & Profs. Fales, Logan, Redd, Cheek, Crooks, Gordon, Throckmorton, Blayney, Fulton, Clark, & Ramsey. Dr. Hinitt announced to the Faculty that Dr. John C. Fales had offered his resignation as Dean of the Faculty in June, that the resignation had been accepted, & that Prof. John W. Redd had been chosen by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees as his successor. Dr. Ramsey having offered the use of his classroom as a Faculty reading room, Dr. Hinitt appointed Drs. Ramsey & Gordon a committee to attend to the fitting up of the room & to finding what magazines each member of the Faculty would contribute. Dr. Hinitt promised that the leading educational magazines should be on file. Dr. Blayney & Dr. Clark were appointed to arrange for a series of departmental lectures by members of the Faculty; the lectures to be given before the student body & the public, & to preparatory schools desiring such lectures. Adjourned.

The Faculty met at the call of the Dean. Present - John W. Redd, Dean, & Profs. Fales, Cheek, Crooks, Gordon, Blayney, Fulton & Clark. Inquiry was made as to the work of several students who had fallen out of the beginning class in German. No action taken. Adjourned.

November 4, 1907

The meeting was opened with prayer by President Hinitt. Present - Dr. Hinitt & Profs. Fales, Logan, Redd, Cheek, Crooks, Gordon, Throckmorton, Blayney, Fulton, Clark & Ramsey. Regulations governing special examinations for the removal of conditions were adopted, & are as follows:

Conditions & Special Examinations

A condition is incurred by:

  1. Failure to make a grade of at least D in any
  2. Exclusion from examination because of absences from classroom or preceptorial appointments
  3. Absences from an examination

A condition, except in case of exclusion from examination for cause (b), may be removed by special examination on anyone of the following dates:

  1. At the next regular examination period.
  2. On the last Monday & Tuesday of the summer vacation; on the first Saturday of the Winter Term; on the first Saturday of the Spring Term.
  3. At the regular examination in the same subject one year from the time the condition was incurred.

A condition in an elective subject may be removed by taking in class another elective subject of at least the same number of recitations a week, only one such condition to be so removed in any one term.

If a condition is not removed within one year, the subject must be repeated in class.

Students excluded from examination in any subject for cause (b) must repeat the subject in class.

Excuse for absence from the regular examination will be granted only in case of illness or other urgent necessity, and only by the President of the University or by the Dean of the Faculty. Excuse must be obtained on or before the date of the regular examination, and official notice be given on that date to the Professor in charge of the subject.

Only students excused from the regular examination can make more than a passing grade on a special examination.

Students absent without excuse from a regular examination must pay a fee of $5.00 to the Treasurer of the University, and present receipt for same to the instructor before taking the special examination in any subject.

Notice of intention to take a special examination at above dates must be filed with the Head of the Department at least three days before the date of such examination.

All conditions of previous years must be removed not later than the first Saturday of the Spring Term of the year in which a student expects to take his Bachelor's Degree. Adjourned.

December 18, 1907

Present - President Hinitt and Professors Logan, Redd, Cheek, Crooks, Gordon, Throckmorton, Blayney, Fulton, Clark & Ramsey. Prayer by Dr. Logan. Dr. Gordon reported the result of his investigation in Somerset of reported misconduct of basketball team in that city. F. Hess was present & made statement as to these charges in so far as they affected him. Hess was suspended indefinitely upon the ground of general misconduct tending to the subversion of discipline including conduct at Somerset. Prof. Throckmorton appointed to reprimand the member of the basketball team for misconduct. Paul Geray was suspended indefinitely for misconduct. Adjourned.
